Summary | 0002193: Switch to more flexible boot strategy selection
Description | Currently we can select between booting from UBI and booting via NFS. And using DHCP or not. However this only switches the rootfs. We also want to select where to load the kernel from, if and where to show console messages, if and where to start a login prompt, whether to load the root filesystem read-write or read-only. And we also want more sources to load from, for example, UBI, NFS, TFTP, SD-Card, USB-Stick. With the current concept these possibilities would multiply, i.e. there would be one variable for each of the possible combination. This is not feasible. We should have a new system where each of these settings can be selected independently. For eample switch the kernel device independently from the rootfs device.
Additional Information | We need to change the system for AGATEWAY. There the UART3 is shared between Z-Wave and Debug port. So we can either use console output/login prompt, or we can communicate with Z-Wave, not both. So we need an easy way to activate and deactivate the console output and login prompt.
